Juniors
Juniors (8+) – Before You Join us!
Our club is open to junior athletes in school year 4 and above.
Our sessions have strict limits on the number of athletes we can accommodate. For this reason, please do not just turn up unannounced expecting to be able to join in. We operate an introduction process that is managed by our membership secretary. In order to express interest in your child joining the club please contact the membership secretary via the details below, stating the following:
1. The age of your child
2. Current level of experience in running / athletics of your child
You will then be contacted, inviting your child to attend a taster session, free of charge.
After the taster session, either apply for membership on our membership portal (linked via this website), or for any further questions liaise with the membership secretary or the coaching team on the night of the taster session.
Seniors
Seniors (18+) – Before You Join us!
All prospective members asked to email our membership secretary in the first instance via the details below.
If you are looking to take part in our training sessions then you are entitled to come along to four training sessions, as a taster, free of charge.
After the taster session, either apply for membership on our membership portal (linked via this website), or for any further questions liaise with the membership secretary or the coaching team on the night of the taster session.
Volunteer
Coaching
Our goal is for people, whatever their age, to attend our training sessions and feel inspired and motivated. We can only do that with individuals that think innovatively and creatively about sessions suitable for those that turn up. Think we could do better? We'd love more people to get involved to help us mix it up a little. Opportunities exist to coach or assist the coaching team for both junior and senior sessions.
If you are interested in coaching then please speak to the coaching and development coordinator. In order to become a qualified coach, you will need to attend a course (paid for by the club).
Local Race Support
We host running events, track and field matches, social occasions and more. None of these would happen without a dedicated team. See our (link) Local Race Information page for more information.
A particular requirement for our Junior track and field matches is the use of qualified officials. This is a hugely rewarding activity and an opportunity to be right at the heart of the action in an exciting sport.
Track and Field athletics is not possible without the following:
- Qualified officials:
- Starters - Start the races!
- Track Judges – Record the position athletes come in races, count the laps in distance events, monitor hurdle events, etc.
- Field Judges – Record attempts by competitors, watch for infringements in throwing and jumping disciplines.
- Timekeepers – times races!
- Helpers - rake a sandpit, move some hurdles, retrieve a javelin, replace a high jump bar, etc. They are not big or daunting tasks but they need to be done.
There is a huge amount of information on officiating on the England Athletics website https://www.englandathletics.org/officiating/
If you are interested in helping out in this area, then speak to the Junior Coach Rep. In order to become an official, you will need to attend a course (paid for by the club). Helpers just need to turn up!
Club management
As an affiliated organisation we have a responsibility to manage the club according to the expectations of the body we are affiliated to (England Athletics). In addition, general day-to-day club management requires a number of official roles. To do this we have a club committee that act as a steering group for club activities. If you are interested in joining the committee or would like to know what it entails, then see the (link to page) Club Governance page.
